Black bags will collected by waste department

Disappointed Strubenvale resident writes:

We live in Marks Crescent, Strubenvale and our black bags are usually collected on a Tuesday, that is if they are not striking or have some other excuse not to collect.

Recently our black bags were not removed on collection day, so we kept putting it out each day and they were finally collected on November 11.

Due to the fact that there was no collection, our black dustbin was full, so we had to resort to using our green dustbin, which is exactly the same except for the colour.

My husband was outside when they collected, they refused to take the green dustbin and the two loose black bags standing next to it.

When he asked why they aren’t taking it, he was told they were doing us a favour by taking the green dustbin and loose bags.

The driver then just drove off, leaving the green dustbin still full and the two black bags still standing there.

The point I am trying to make is if they collect on the days that they should, then we wouldn’t have to resort to using other dustbins or leaving loose black bags on the side of the road.

Why then should we be punished for their tardiness.

Surely in cases like these where they know they are collecting late, they should make exceptions to the rule?

The fact remains that it is their fault that we had more black bags to collect this week.

• Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says:

In the event that refuse is not collected according to the refuse calendar, residents are allowed to put their extra black bags alongside the 240 litre bins for collection.

However, bins with other colours will not be serviced.

We will continue with our endeavour to educate our people to interact professionally with our customers.
