Missing mom

Last week Mom sneakily packed her wheelie box when she thought I was not looking.

On Sunday morning she snuck it from the dressing table stool onto the bed and added a few more things.

Thought to my own furry self… nooo…. I’m a sick doglet.

She would never go off and leave me.

But my woggledy whiskers… she left me.

Alpha and Mom climbed into the car and off they went.

Oh sure, Mom smooched me and said she would not be long and I should be a good woof and look after the family, but the bottom line was… she left me.

Alpha came home later – with no Mom.

My Ems was assigned to pill duty during the day and they blocked off the stairs so that I could not go up.

Ems is too tiny.

She can’t pick me up to take me downstairs – like Mom and Alpha do.

So I had a hissy fit on Sunday night.

Just a little one.

Thought maybe if Mom heard I was having fits she might come skedaddling home in a hurry.

Sadly this did not work – so I had another, larger one on Monday morning.

Ems had a chat to me.

Fudges! She said.

Mom is only gone for a few days and she had no choice.

You are going to have to put on your big girl furry knickers and deal with it.

Besides – you still have four people left in the house to talk to and love you.

She added that she would give me unlimited carrots.

Feh!

It was a long, loooong week, despite the fact that my Ems looked after me very well indeed.

On Friday I heard a noise.

Sounded like our car.

Maybe Alpha was coming home early for a change.

There was a rattle at the door but my boy Luan’s keys were in the keyhole on the house side.

I heard the garden gate open.

Dashed onto the stoep….

And there was my Mom – smiling at me with all her teeth.

She dropped to her knees and dished me loads of love.

Gave her the nose… where’s my pressie then?

She hauled out a meatie stick from her bag and shared it with my own furry self, Ralphie and Edge kitty.

Then we played some ball.

Ems got the second hug.

All is well now – Mom is home.
