Metro SMS notifications dry up

Bertus Thiart writes:

For a long time I received SMS notifications from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, with my monthly statement for my utilities attached.

It was so easy and convenient, especially since receiving a physical statement in the mail is hit and miss at best. Until one day, about six months ago, it simply stopped.

The system worked well and I believe that everyone who pays for water and electricity surely has a cellphone capable of receiving an SMS. It just saves everyone so much trouble.

Editor’s note: Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe responded by saying that the customer’s preferences have been updated and that he will receive SMS notifications as soon as future statements become available. He did not comment on why the service was stopped.
