Trixi’s bravery

Brenda McStay an ex-Selection Park resident writes:

Trixi’s bravery is fresh in my mind, can’t believe it’s 15 years ago.

That my precious child intervened; ultimate price prepared to pay

With fortitude she fought the bigger dog – without doubt saved my life

Without hesitation, prepared to die – suffered serious pain and strife.

Through her actions I’ve had extra time, to become… to do… to see

And spend precious time with loved ones who are very dear to me

I wouldn’t have seen the young ones grow – charming young-adults today

And wouldn’t have known my precious namesake – what more can I say?

Yes, I’d have missed family celebrations and not shared special times

I’d have missed the chance to travel wide and hear the Big Ben chimes,

I’d have lost time to know and love YOU, and build up memories

If it wasn’t for Trixi’s love and action… you would have read my obituary.

And so today I sit quietly to remember, and most humbly reflect

How the gift I was given August 23, 2001 was absolutely perfect

I was given another chance at life… to give love and so much more

Yes, another chance to face the world and give from my inner core.

I was honoured to nominate Trixi; and was delighted when she won

The title given to our country’s bravest hero – ‘Superpet 2001’

I will always hold her memory dear and tell everyone her story

of how my God-given friend saved my life – to God be the glory!

If you can appreciate what Trixi Superpet’s actions have meant to me

Please feel free to share her story wide, so others hear and see

And, I also ask in honour of Trixi, please open your heart and share

By giving a little to SPCA for other little ‘heroes’ in their care.

I’d be glad if you give at least R15, a symbol of each year more

Even better if you can multiply – by two, or three or four.

So please help me to give a home to homeless four-leg friends

And thereby show some love and help a broken world to mend.
