Post lost in transit

A disappointed senior writes:

My daughter posted an airmail gift from overseas for Mother’s Day on April 19.

After not receiving any notification, on May 6 I made an inquiry at the post office in town.

I gave them the tracking number for my parcel, after which they notified me that my parcel had arrived on April 25 in Johannesburg customs.

They then said I should give it three days.

On May 13 I went back to the post office and presented the tracking number and thankfully my parcel had arrived.

The tax invoice I received was dated May 2 and stated that the first and second notifications had been issued, stipulating that claims must be made in 21 days.

I, however, received the said notifications on May 25, which were dated for earlier.

So in light of all this, I realise that if I had not made inquiries with my tracking number, my parcel would have been sent back on May 23.

After my daughter paid a large amount for postage, I still had to pay an additional R88.74 for this poor service.

As a senior citizen who has worked for the post office for many years, I am very disappointed with the current state of affairs.
