I attended Laerskool Christiaan Beyer, the bus fetched me at Gilhooley Road, Selection Park and brought me to the bus stop.
My parents moved to Durban, but I returned in 1961 to work in the main Post Office in Third Street.
As Third Street used to be a one way, my mom and I enjoyed taking the bus from Grung Road, Selection Park, past the fountains to the OK Bazaars in Third Street, to buy our groceries.
They delivered our shopping free of charge.
I got married and worked at Bradlows in Fourth Street.
I remember getting those delicious pastries, filled with mixed fruit and topped with cream from Dainties, across the road, for tea.
We lived in James Court, where the Strubenvale Pick n Pay is in Ermelo Road, and I used to take the bus across the road from the flats to town.
In 1963, mother-in-law, Signora Bisello, used to demonstrate how to make spaghetti bolognaise in Greatermans, in Third Street.
The Plaza and Palladium provided good movies for entertainment.
John Orr was a favourite shopping store and we had Catell’s, as well as ABC, for the latest shoes.
What lovely memories we have of long ago.
