SAPS use legal parking

My family and I recently went to the Wimpy at Springsgate for breakfast, once there we noticed a police car parked in a disabled parking bay.

The officer, off duty as he had no uniform on, and his wife also had breakfast at Wimpy and both of them left before us, this is how I know that neither of them were disabled.

If the people who are supposed to uphold the law show such blatant disregard for traffic laws and rules how do they ever expect the public to?

How do we respect police if they show no respect for us?

Disappointed member of the public.

* Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, responds:

A SAPS officer invited a colleague for breakfast at the Wimpy to thank her for the typing of his report.

The officer parked in a legal parking bay as there was no indication in terms of the National Roads Traffic Act 93/1996, that it was a demarcated disabled parking bay.

There were no visible yellow lines, no disabled sign painted on the tar surface of the parking bay and no prescribed disabled parking board in front of the bay in terms of the said Act.
