Save the trees

Our by-laws are supposed to guide us, protect us and lead us all on how to behave and go around our daily lives.

Our nature and environment form part of this and it seems people just don’t care anymore.

In the beginning of this year in my neighbourhood, four trees, of about 50 years or older, were cut down and just the stumps remained on the sidewalk.

Was this done because all four were big, old, dead trees or perhaps exotic?

I do wonder why the felling of trees is so easily done without considering the consequences of these acts for all living creatures.

Yes, sometimes there is a valid reason and sometimes we humans do things for personal gain.

Arborists and big nature lovers like myself say thank you for tree planting days.

When driving around in my home town today, you will see there are definitely less trees nowadays.

I hope when our National Arbor Week in 2015 arrives, those who can, will help our planet by planting, and the rest of our fellow residents will spare a thought on how life will be without trees, and enjoy the ones still standing.

Can our metro please enlighten us on what the by-law says concerning the cutting of trees.

Is this law still enforced by the metro?

The interesting method of calculating the value of a tree will also be highly appreciated.
