There was a knock on the door and Kerneels, Alpha’s brother who lives on the farm came to visit. You are probably asking me why on earth this should be amazing.
Simple.
Kerneels is a farmer and he hates all the traffic in Gauteng. But bits of his car were broken and the only place that could fix it was near where we live… so he had to come and visit.
He did not stay long though.
Then Alpha went missing. So it was just mom and me. Every now and then I’d hear Alpha yakking away on mom’s tik tik thingy – but I could not actually see him.
He came home just in time for the weekend.
On Saturday morning they looked at me. You want to try going for a little walk Fudges?
Walk! WALK?
Of course I want to go for a walk. The last time I went for a walk was before I got sick and went to hospital – ages and ages ago.
So we all piled into the car and off we went.
Turned out to be quite a short walk indeedy. Although they parked in the middle bit of the veld so that I did not have to walk up the hill to get to the pathway, I still could only manage a few meters and then my toenails started dragging on the cobblestones. Mom looked at me… you want to turn around Fudges?
Yip. Felt a bit like a wuzzie doglet, but there was just no energy left.
It’s okay Fudgie-wena, mom said. We are taking baby steps here. This was just to give you a little outing other than going to visit Dr Dean. Do some weemail, sniff some butts!
Ghah! I never do the butt sniffing – I’m too ladylike for that. Although I did get my butt sniffed.
We did the same thing on Sunday. Went a few steps further than the day before too. I looked longingly up the hill to the spot where we always play ball but meanie old mom said I should not even think about it.
Too late! I had already thought about it, but that was as far as it was going.
I’ve been playing a bit of ball in the garden though – without constantly nose-diving into the grass – so I reckon I’m getting stronger.
