Huge sewer problem

An unhappy Addie reader waited three weeks for the metro to react to her letter.

I am a homeowner in Struisbult Extension 1 area for the last 22 years.

Our roads were only tar lately which we are very pleased of however many other service are in poor conditions – we try several times to get it fix without any progress.

We have a sewerage problem for years but since they have tar the roads around us it is even worst.  The smell coming from the manholes is unbearable – close to us is a dam that birds and fish share but I don’t think it will last for long before all of it are killed due to the sewerage that run down to this beautiful dam on daily basis.

Not less than three to four manholes leak sewerage out in the field in Fisant street which flow down to the dam.

Not all the stand are built on and due to that people think our area are a dumping site with rubbish dumped all over the place at open stands.

The main road Gull that leads to most of the houses tar is lifting up due to previous water leaks that wasn’t fixed for more than 2 years. The surface is so uneven you can barely drive with a sedan car on the road and have to use other roads to get to your house.

They have use meters to use water for the tarring of the roads lately and ever since the meter box is open on corner of Fisant & Penguin streets and the water leaks through on daily basis.

A tree felt over more than three months ago and a lamp pole was completely damage the pole is still half way in the road and the lights at Fisant Road is not working for more than half of the road this is a very dangerous dark area and we feel unsafe to even drive at night at that road.

There was even the other day a car that was highjack at Daggafontein the day before found at this point.  The other day a kid was rape also not far from this area in the bush.

I really think we deserve better treatment by Ekurhuleni as we are also part of Springs and try our best to live a decent citizens but must always be happy with the crumbs and don’t get any feedback.

I once again report all these matters with the Municipal Services Complaints Call Centre (reporting again on November 26 referance numbers are: 938565  – Sewerage; 938572 – Water meter leak; 938575 – Street lights and 938580 – Road Gull Street.

If I can get a number or name of a Health Inspector I will definitely send someone out to investigate the area because due to the sewerage leaks & dumping of rubbish all over this is very unhealthy.

* We only became aware of the sewer blockage this past weekend (December 9 to 13) and a team was sent to attend to it.

When they arrived, they found that the manhole covers were missing and that the manholes were full of rocks.

We then started the process to get a combination truck from our contractors.

Due to the load on our systems during rainy season, their trucks were very busy.
