EMPD takes transport awareness to the streets

Transport Month is aimed at promoting efficient, safe, and reliable transport services.

The EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit visited the taxi ranks in Springs and Tsakane over the weekend as part of this month’s road transportation awareness campaign.

As launched and highlighted by the Minister of Transport, this year’s theme ‘Siyakha, we are building’, enabled the EMPD officers to engage the community with public transport services, including road transport law enforcement.

The awareness campaign was aimed at promoting safer public transport services and helping to curb the number of fatalities on public roads.

The officers not only interacted with taxi owners and drivers but also with commuters and passengers, who make use of these services on a daily basis.

Furthermore, they gave a detailed explanation of how everyone has a vital role to play when it comes to road safety and public transport.

A clear understanding was shared on what role EMPD officers play in the community with regards to road traffic and road transport and how all parties can work together to create safer roads throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.
