Latest Springs crime stats

The crime statistics are for the second quarter of the year, from April to June, and they include robberies at non-residential premises, other theft, motor vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.

The first quarter of the 2023/2024 crime statistics were revealed recently. It is compiled from cases reported to and detected by the SAPS from April to June 2023.

Police Minister Bheki Cele said while there are still unacceptably high crime levels, violent crime levels are starting to show a decrease.

“We have analysed these recent figures, and this ministry remains persuaded that the decision to aggressively and strategically confront crime was the right one,” Cele said at the crime statistics media briefing.

According to the crime statistics, the Springs SAPS recorded a decrease in robberies at non-residential premises and other thefts and an increase in motor vehicle and motorcycle theft during the first quarter.

Burglaries at residential premises saw 21 cases, a decrease from the 27 cases recorded in the same period in 2022.

Other thefts in Springs had 260 cases, which was a decrease from the 297 cases recorded in the same period in 2022.

Seventy-two cases were reported for car and motorcycle hijacking, which shows an increase from the 40 cases reported in the previous term.
