Police recovered an AK47 and a hunting rifle.

A man and his wife were arrested in Brakpan on Tuesday for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, communication officer for the Benoni Flying Squad, at around 10:30 Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan-Mare Eksteen from the squad followed up crime intelligence information with members of the Brakpan Trio Task Team.

The information was for a wanted suspect at a residence near the Plastic City informal settlement.

“The suspect was not traced but a search of the premises led to the recovery of an AK47 rifle with one magazine containing 29 live rounds of ammunition and a 5.56 calibre hunting rifle with one magazine containing 20 live rounds of ammunition,” said Giblin.
