Dunnottar police arrest five armed men on Nigel Road

The armed men are expected to appear at the Nigel Magistrate Court soon.

The Dunnottar SAPS arrested five armed men on Thursday on charges relating to the possession of firearms, ammunition, and two Okapi knives, next to a supermarket on Nigel Road.

Dunnottar SAPS communication officer Sergeant Maropeng Maphaya said that the police members spotted a Toyota Conquest with five male occupants while doing their routine patrols.

“They pulled the car over and conducted a search which led to the discovery of three unlicensed firearms, one licensed firearm with ammunition and two Okapi knives,” said Maphaya.

“The vehicle in question was seized for further enquiry and investigation.”

Maphaya added that the police cannot rule out the possible involvement of the men in the spate of robberies that occurred within the Dunnottar policing precinct as well as neighbouring areas pending investigation.

The men were detained at Dunnottar SAPS. They will soon be appearing at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court.
