As rugby, cricket and soccer season returns, Fidelity ADT reminds residents to remain vigilant about home security, especially when hosting friends or going out to watch a match.
Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing and communications at Fidelity ADT, highlights the importance of maintaining security.
She provides the following safety tips:
• Always arm your alarm system, even if you leave briefly.
• Carry panic buttons within reach at all times, even when you are in the garden or stepping out. Consider keeping one in the car for added safety.
• Close the gate after each guest’s arrival, and if you have an intercom system, verify who is at the gate before allowing entrance.
• Allow guests to park within the property behind closed gates. If street parking is necessary, arrange a guard to monitor vehicles.
• Activate garden beams and electric fencing. These early warning systems are invaluable and linked to an armed response service for maximum protection.
• Keep your dogs close to the gathering area to deter intruders. Avoid isolating them, as this can make them targets for intruders.
• Ensure proper outdoor lighting.
• Do regular door and gate checks, checking they are locked, especially after guests enter or leave.
• Activate alarms in areas not being used to provide additional security.
• Resist the urge to leave doors open while enjoying the game. Ensure that all doors and windows are secured and beams armed to maintain a secure environment for you and your guests.
• Report anything suspicious to the SAPS and your security provider.
