Conference aims to build communities

The event aims to promote self-help, self-sustainability and self-sufficiency in communities.

The Lighthouse Community Centre will host the third annual Wemoti Cooperative Movement (WCM) conference on October 19.

The WCM has positioned itself as a driver, leader and voice for co-operative development in SA. The main focus is the co-ordination of resources, market penetration and mobilisation of society towards co-operation and collaboration efforts.

Qalukazi Gazu of the WCM said the unspoken agenda centres on creating a culture of self-help, self-sufficiency and self-sustainability among co-operative groups and certain communities.

“Our motto is ‘Taking the lead and taking charge’. This event will allow us to reflect on some of the issues affecting our communities,” said Qazu.

The co-operatives in the provinces where the WCM has a footprint will attend. The conference will be held on 82 Charterland Avenue in Selcourt. For more details, call Gazu on 071 516 8049.
