Reminder: Update your prepaid electricity meter

Electricity meters not updated will stop working automatically on November 24 because of software issues.

The CoE continues to update its prepaid electricity meters to provide an uninterrupted electricity supply to its customers. The project got underway in Edenvale and Nigel at the beginning of last month.

The city has already covered 78% of the meters in Edenvale and Nigel, and later this month, the focus moves to Benoni, Springs and surrounding areas.

“Unless each meter is updated, the current electricity meters will automatically cease working by November 24 because of a date rollover problem.

“This means residents will not be able to load electricity on them after the said deadline,” explains metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

“The Token Identifier (TID) rollover programme the city uses to update the electricity meters will continue until November 24, 2024.”

Tokens purchased but not used before the deadline will become invalid. To update a meter, when buying electricity after the system settings, a client will receive a receipt with three tokens they must enter in the sequence as printed on the receipt.

The update takes about two minutes. This change will affect all prepaid meters with 11 digits, not only the CoE prepaid electricity meters.

The project will move to Brakpan and Germiston in October. For more information about this migration, clients must log on to tidrollover.com or call their nearest customer care centres.
