Robbers injure 52-year-old homeowner in Casseldale

A 52-year-old man was attacked during a house robbery in Casseldale early on Tuesday morning.

A 52-year-old man was attacked during a house robbery in Casseldale while sleeping alone in his house on Tuesday at about 01:00. The incident occurred after strange noises coming from the front door awoke him.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the man realised someone was forcing the door open. As he attempted to push it shut, two balaclava-clad thieves armed with pangas overpowered him.

“The thieves demanded cash, and in an attempt to intimidate him, one of them cut his little finger with the weapon,” Tshabalala said.

Fearing for his life, the victim disclosed where he had hidden his money. The thieves fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, two TVs and several cellphones.

Tshabalala said the victim ran outside to scream for help after the thieves had fled, only to discover his dog had been killed near his gate.

He sustained injuries to his hands, and medical help attended the scene. No arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing.
