Abide by the rules or be fined

Residents should abide by the land use by-laws.

Property owners could be fined between R500 and R5 000 daily for running businesses on residential properties without following the CoE’s by-laws.

The MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi, said this during a monitoring visit to Kwa-Thema on August 27.

The primary purpose of the visit was to urge residents to abide by the by-laws, including the land use by-laws.

“We must be considerate to our neighbours and abide by the city’s by-laws when we do business in our residential properties.

“You cannot run industrial machines all day because you have a business. There is a reason we have demarcations for all land uses in the city,” Nkosi said.

She called on residents who want to rezone their properties to visit the City Planning offices at their nearest Customer Care Centre.

“Our officers are always ready to listen and help you,” she said.

She said residents may call 011 999 4144/8356/4975/ or 7497 for more information and guidance.
