Local archer shines at archery championship in Brazil

Local archer Grietjie Poolman from Dynamic Archery, brought home a silver medal from the IFAA World Field Archery Championship (WFAC) in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.

Grietjie Poolman of Dynamic Archery in Springs has returned from a successful tour in Brazil, where she competed as part of the South African national team at the IFAA World Field Archery Championship (WFAC).

The prestigious event took place in Foz do Iguaçu from August 2 to 10.

Representing the country and the South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association (SANIFAA), the 18-member team achieved remarkable success, winning 12 gold, six silver, and three bronze medals across 11 categories.

In her division, Grietjie the veteran archer tied for first place with Estelle Jacobs from Cape Town after the five-day competition.

Dynamic Archery’s Dana Poolman explained that, according to the rules, medals could not be shared.

“After a shoot-off, Estelle secured the gold with a two-point lead, while Grietjie earned the silver,” said Dana.

“Despite the close finish, Grietjie’s debut at the world championship was an outstanding achievement.

“Her performance has made her family and the Dynamic Archery School, where she is the head coach, incredibly proud.”
