Celebrating Women’s Month: Kerry-Leigh Wright’s story of hope, faith and grace

In 2018, Kerry-Leigh channelled her passion for service into founding the Hope, Faith, and Grace Community Project.

As Women’s Month progresses, we joyfully honour Kerry-Leigh Wright. She is the founder of the Hope, Faith, and Grace Community Project, who celebrated her 42nd birthday on August 19.

Many may recall Kerry-Leigh from her time at O’Hagan’s in Springs. Her professional journey had significant achievements, including a transition from franchising to the furniture retail industry, where she advanced to the position of assistant regional manager.

In 2018, Kerry-Leigh channelled her passion for service into founding the Hope, Faith, and Grace Community Project.

“My journey has always been about making a difference. When I realised the profound gap in support for young adults, I knew I had to take action,” she reflects.

A proud mother of two daughters, Shevoine and Valery, Kerry-Leigh has dedicated herself entirely to this initiative.

Although she is not married, her commitment to the project is unwavering. She resides at the centre, working to ensure its smooth operation and full functionality.

“Being at the centre every day allows me to be hands-on, and fully engaged in our mission,” says Kerry-Leigh.

“It is a labour of love and a testament to the importance of being present.”

The Hope, Faith, and Grace Community Project focuses on aiding young adults aged 18 to 24 who come from difficult backgrounds, such as homelessness or foster care.

“The centre provides a nurturing environment where these young individuals receive comprehensive support from a team of volunteers, including counsellors, facilitators, marketers, and timeshare assistants.”

Kerry-Leigh emphasises, “Our goal is to empower these young people not just to survive, but to thrive. We equip them with skills for employment, help them save money, and prepare them for a successful future.”

The project began with Kerry-Leigh’s involvement in outreach and feeding schemes and has grown into a vital resource for youth in need.

“Our work has evolved to address the unique challenges faced by young adults, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the impact we can make,” she notes.

Kerry-Leigh attributes her success to divine guidance and the steadfast support of her mother, who has been an enduring source of inspiration.

“My mom has taught me the value of perseverance and faith. Her belief in me has been a driving force behind everything I do.”

Balancing the demands of managing the organisation with family responsibilities has been challenging, but Kerry-Leigh’s family has been a crucial support system.

“There have been many tough moments, but knowing that my family believes in this mission keeps me going. We take it one day at a time – with hope and determination.”

One of the most memorable milestones for Kerry-Leigh was the day the centre opened its doors to the first group of youth.

“Seeing the smiles and knowing we were making a difference was truly gratifying,” she recalls.

The Hope, Faith, and Grace Community Project remains committed to empowering youth and making a lasting impact. Kerry-Leigh and her team are deeply grateful for the community’s support, which has been instrumental in realising their vision.

“We look forward to many more years of serving and uplifting our young people. With continued support, we can make a meaningful difference in their lives.”
