A fresh new look for the Springs entrances

Local business, Springs Garden Centre, will undertake to beautify all entrances leading into the town.

Springs is on its way to getting fresh and flowery new looks for its entrances. Springs Garden Centre, a local business, has taken upon itself the task of restoring the beauty of the entrances.

Business owner Lukas Jansen van Vuuren speaks about the decision that prompted him and his family to lead the project.

“As we are a garden centre, the nature of beauty flows is in our hearts and the entrances to Springs no longer represented the beauty of Springs.”

He mentions the tattered and neglected centre pieces for the entrances.

“The flowers have not been pruned and the weeds have overgrown over the years.”

He says they decided after a local councillor approached them requesting help to do something about it.

With the approval of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), they started with the entrance by the Paul Kruger Highway.

“If I can beautify the entrances to my town, then it will motivate people to come into town and that means more investments.”

Lukas says they plan to beautify and restore all entrances that lead into Springs.

“We will look at all entrances individually and work on them as different projects.”

He adds it will not be an easy endeavour nor is it a project he takes lightly.

“I will do what I can with what I have. It is not cheap but we do what we can to make Springs a better place. We come with the experience and will maintain the spaces as well.

“It has been a long time coming from my side. It took a lot of planning. I am just hoping that the CoE will come to the party and help as well. The Roads Department has been especially helpful as they assisted with traffic management and removed some of the broken flowerpots.”

Lukas says this project will help people see their love for beautiful things reflected through the town.

The restoration will include weeding, planting flowers and roses, adding stones, and repainting. Lukas hopes to have the entrance along Paul Kruger highway near the Springs Mining and Military Museum ready by the beginning of September.
