Women in blue lead Operation Basadi on N12

The Operation Basadi, a women-led roadblock on the N12, brought together teams from Gauteng and Mpumalanga to focus on vehicle safety and illegal activities, leading to numerous arrests, fines, and a significant community outreach.

An inter-provincial, women-led roadblock operation called Basadi was conducted on August 16 along the N12 near Springs.

This initiative brought together multi-disciplinary teams from various government sectors across Gauteng and Mpumalanga to ensure road safety for all users travelling between the two provinces.

SAPS members, in collaboration with officials from Ekurhuleni and Mpumalanga, the Department of Home Affairs, Gauteng Provincial Traffic, Mpumalanga Traffic, EMPD, National Traffic Police, Mpumalanga Road Safety Education, and crime prevention wardens, carried out the roadblock.

The focus was checking vehicle roadworthiness, detecting dangerous weapons, identifying stolen vehicles and property, and uncovering drugs and other illegal substances.
