Springsites brave icy waters for a good cause

Springites came together for the first Geduld Methodist Church (GMC) Polar Plunge, braving icy waters to support GMC’s soup kitchen.

On a crisp Friday morning, Springs came together for a heartwarming cause – participating in the first Geduld Methodist Church (GMC) Polar Plunge event.

Held at the Springs Girls’ High School pool and Cindels at The Quench, the event had an impressive turnout.
Participants of all ages braved the icy waters to raise funds for the church’s soup kitchen ministry.

The polar plunge was a tremendous success, with eight courageous individuals participating, each contributing their unique energy and enthusiasm to the event.

The community’s support was overwhelming, with generous donations from local businesses, families, and individuals inspired by the cause.

Pastor Jonathan Coates expressed his gratitude, saying, “The response from our community has been truly humbling.”

“It is incredible to see so many people willing to step out of their comfort zones to support those in need. The funds raised will help us continue our work through the soup kitchen, ensuring we can provide hot meals to those who need them most.”

The funds will be used to maintain and service the soup kitchen’s van and trailer, essential for transporting food and supplies. The soup kitchen, which operates three days a week, feeds over 400 people.

“The day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared sense of purpose. Many participants noted how the experience gave them a deeper understanding of the daily struggles faced by those who rely on the soup kitchen’s services,” said Coates.

The Geduld Methodist Church thanked everyone who participated, donated, or supported the event.

“Together, the community has made a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate.”

As the Polar Plunge becomes a cherished tradition in Springs, the church looks forward to continuing this event in the years to come, uniting the community in service and compassion.
