Armed men steal car batteries

A store at the Springs Gate Shopping Centre was targeted in a daylight robbery on July 27.

Five men robbed a store at the Springs Gate Shopping Centre on the morning of July 27.

According to Springs SAPS communications officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the complainant, on duty with another employee, reported that a silver Ford Focus with registration number SGR846GP arrived at the scene.

“He alleged that the three men emerged from the car, claiming they wanted to test a car battery. When the complainant opened the bonnet, one of the men brandished a firearm and threatened both employees, instructing them to lie down.

“Shortly after, a white Toyota Quantum with registration LN21LKGP arrived, and two additional men exited the vehicle,” said Tshabalala.

He added that these men proceeded to steal 10 Sabat batteries valued at R14 930, which they then loaded into the kombi.

No shots were fired during the incident, and no one was injured. The investigation into the business robbery is ongoing.
