In the spirit of Mandela Day, the Baby 1 000 Days Programme, in partnership with Huggies, donated 250 hampers and repainted the paediatric ward at Far East Rand Regional Hospital (FERRH).
The paediatric ward brightened up with different cartoon characters and new mothers, who had just given birth at the facility that day, received hampers.
Phumza Ntuthuka, the FERRH communications officer, highlighted the donation was a collaborative effort between the Department of Health, Triple Eight, and Kimberley Clark’s Huggies Babies 1 000 Days Programme.
Sarika Modi, CEO of Triple Eight, explained the programme supports maternity wards in clinics and hospitals across the country, particularly those with many pregnant and new mothers who need support.

“FERRH was one of the hospitals identified in partnership with the Department of Health to benefit from the programme.”
Modi added, “The support from these organisations includes trained health workers who visit the hospital daily to educate and support pregnant and new mothers.
“The Department of Health aims to ensure that these mothers receive the necessary education and are provided with nappy starter kits to ease their burden.”
FERRH acting CEO Monyaduwe Motsele, expressed gratitude, saying, “We did not expect such generous support. We thank the organisations that contributed to this wonderful initiative.”
