Gold One Mine clinched the championship trophy in netball, with Northam Elands from Brits and Northam Zondereinde securing runner-up positions.

Gold One Mine recently hosted its third successful inter-mines soccer and netball tournament at Hoërskool Hugenote on Saturday.

The event, known for bringing together professionals from various mining operations, saw participation from teams representing mining houses across Gauteng, Limpopo, North-West, and Mpumalanga.

Gold One Mine clinched the championship trophy in netball, with Northam Elands from Brits and Northam Zondereinde securing runner-up positions.

At soccer, Northam Zondereinde emerged victorious, while Northam Elands from Brits and Booysendal from Lydenburg claimed the runner-up spots.

A member of the sports committee, Chris Nchabeleng, expressed satisfaction with the tournament outcome:

“Though one mine did not pitch, the tournament was a good and successful event.”

He highlighted the significant participation of various dignitaries, including SAFA Ekurhuleni Region President Job Mchunu, Springs SAPS communication officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, Phil Matlou from Ekurhuleni Athletes Club, July Mahlangu former Benoni Premier United FC captain, and Gold One management.

He reiterated the tournament objectives: “This tournament aims to foster relationships among mining employees and create opportunities for diverse networking and meaningful relationship building.”

“The event also aims to promote physical and mental well-being and a healthy work-life balance outside the immediate work environment,” said Nchabeleng.

The inter-mines tournament continues to be a significant platform for sports enthusiasts and professionals seeking to strengthen industry bonds and support employee wellness initiatives.
