SAPS arrest trio, recover stolen items

The Springs SAPS arrested three men after they robbed a house on Felicity Street, Endicott, on June 24.

The Springs SAPS is investigating a case of armed robbery after three unidentified men targeted a house on Felicity Street, Endicott, on June 24.

According to Springs SAPS communications officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the complainant reported that he was asleep in an outside room at the address when he heard a knock on the window.

“He went to check and saw three males; one of them held a handgun. They kicked open the door and ordered him to look down and not at them,” Tshabalala explained.

“They then forced him to the main building, made him open the garage door, and took a generator. The robbers loaded the generator into a wheelbarrow and forced the complainant to push it.”

In addition to the generator, the men also stole a 9kg gas cylinder, a two-plate gas stove, a Dell laptop, a cellphone, and groceries.

The SAPS recovered this firearm, among others.

The next day, June 25, the Springs Crime Prevention Unit, led by Captain Mervyn Kasaven, received information regarding the trios’ whereabouts.

The unit, acting on this tip, arrested them and recovered some of the stolen items, including a 6.75mm pistol with a visible serial number.

Further investigation led officers to Devon, where they found the stolen generator at a tavern.

The recovered items include a generator, a wheelbarrow, a hammer, a trowel, a Beretta 6.75mm pistol, and a live 6.75mm round, with a total estimated value of R50 000.

The robbers appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court.
