On June 23, the EMPD Rapid Tactical Response Unit officers recovered two abandoned Toyota Quantum minibuses reported hijacked and stolen in the Springs and Daveyton areas.

Officers received information about the minibuses while on patrol.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said they swiftly responded and used vehicle tracking coordinates to locate one minibus abandoned at the corner of Welgedacht Road and Durban Drive, Springs.

“Simultaneously, in Daveyton on Kunene Street, another minibus matching the description was found abandoned on the roadside,” said Thepa.

“The officers secured both scenes, and further investigations are underway with the relevant stakeholders involved.”

The recovered minibuses are at the Aeroton police pound for safekeeping. The EMPD has opened cases at the Springs and Daveyton police stations for further investigations.
