Springs seniors celebrate winter solstice

The club celebrated winter solstice and receiving funds from the government.

Springs Senior Citizens Club held its winter solstice lunch on Friday. The club also took the opportunity to celebrate the funding they received to keep their doors open.

The club’s chairperson, Ronnie Newby, touched on the happiness they felt and reminded those who were in attendance not to take anything for granted.

“Let’s enjoy the time that we have left. Springs Senior Citizens Club welcomes everyone from all walks of life to come and spend their days here.

”The club’s manager, Pauline Houghton, also expressed her relief at receiving the necessary funds to keep their doors open and their services going.

Patricia Sibiya has been employed by the club for 24 years and says she can’t wait for her retirement in four years.

“We are one of the fortunate ones. Not everyone has received their funding and it is truly heartbreaking.

”Local artist and friend of the club, Leon van Zyl, celebrated the annual event with them.

He serenaded the crows with fan favourites like Country Road, Sweet Caroline and Purple Rain.

Everyone was singing along and ladies from the dance class also graced the floor with one of their routines. There was a delicious three-course meal and drinks for everyone to enjoy.
