Victim unharmed in robbery

Monday morning turned into a nightmare for a 35-year-old man when three armed robbers stormed a supermarket in the Springs CBD.

A 35-year-old man found himself at the mercy of three armed men on Monday during a robbery at a supermarket on Second Street in the Springs CBD.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala stated the man alleged he was alone in the shop when the robbers approached him. They ordered him to lie on the floor.

“He noticed them packing various items, and among the stolen goods were 25 different brands of cellphones, along with R5 000 of cash,” said Tshabalala.

As the robbers escaped, the man captured a photograph of their getaway vehicle. Tshabalala said the robbers were driving a Black Mazda with the registration plate DP 85 PY GP.

“Investigations later revealed the vehicle had a false licence plate belonging to a Volkswagen from Soweto,” said Tshabalala.

The total value of the stolen items is R35 000. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The police have issued a lookout notice for the vehicle used in commissioning the crime, urging the public to provide them with any information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators.
