Striders jump their final hurdle for the Comrades

The club helps its athletes prepare for the marathon season.

The annual Springs Striders Athletics Club President Run was on Sunday. The run has been around for many years and served as the last club run for the runners before they jet off for the Comrades Marathon.

The intimate event also gives Comrades veterans a chance to pass on advice each year to those running the epic marathon for the first time.

“This year, we were privileged to have Berni as ‘Our President’ lead the 10km run. He is one of our oldest and most enthusiastic runners and has completed many Comrades Marathons,” says club secretary Kim Westley.

Several speakers gave motivational talks to the athletes and answered all their questions. These Springs Striders members will participate in the Comrades Marathon from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on June 9:

  • Desmond Beasley – second Comrades;
  • Ravie Moodley – second Comrades;
  • Nico De Nysschen – second Comrades;
  • Malinda Du Plessis – second Comrades;
  • Richardt Lubbe – third Comrades;
  • Annie Arbuckle – fourth Comrades;
  • Thandeka Chili – fourth Comrades;
  • Clement Westley – fourth Comrades;
  • Carla Strauss – fifth Comrades;
  • Dinekhi Buti – fifth Comrades;
  • Ferdi Van Tonder – fifth Comrades;
  • Larissa Donker – sixth Comrades;
  • Charmaine Botha – seventh Comrades;
  • Alwyn Wiid – seventh Comrades;
  • Ignatius Molawa – 10th Comrades;
  • Phumlane Masando – 11th Comrades;
  • Mziwakhe Maseko – 17th Comrades;
  • Annetjie Nel – 21st Comrades;
  • Karin Smith – 27th Comrades.
