Tips to volunteer at the SPCA

Local organisations could always use with an extra helping hand.

There are various ways to do good in the community and volunteer work is one of them. Society manager and inspector for the Springs SPCA, Annecia Morton, speaks about the SPCA’s volunteer programme and how to join it.

“To become a volunteer at the SPCA, you need to fill out an application form, attend an orientation session, and possibly undergo training depending on the tasks you will be involved in. It is also strongly advised that you obtain your tetanus and rabies vaccinations.”

She says volunteers at the SPCA can partake in various activities such as animal care, socialisation, fundraising events, and outreach programmes.

Annecia says there are varying requirements for volunteering at the organisation.

“Requirements for volunteering may vary but include being at least 16 years old, having good health, and a willingness to commit to a certain number of hours per week or month.”

It is important to lend a helping hand to local organisations and social causes in the community.

“Volunteering at local organisations like the SPCA is important as it helps support animal welfare, community engagement, and education efforts, while also providing valuable assistance to staff in caring for animals in need.”

To determine the regulations, residents can enquire with their SPCAs to know what is required.

“Volunteer schedules at the SPCA can vary, but typically volunteers are allowed to come in during specified hours on weekdays and weekends, depending on the organisation’s needs and availability.”
