Residents invited to comment on the city’s budget and IDP

The meeting for Springs residents is scheduled for April 12.

The City of Ekurhuleni invites members of the public to a series of Integrated Development and Planning (IDP) and budget consultative meetings that will start on April 9 until 19.

The meetings will take place across the city in an effort to give everyone an opportunity to give input and comment on the draft reviewed IDP for the period 2024/25 and the draft multiyear budget 2024/25 – 2026/2027.

The draft IDP and budget documents are also available for viewing on the city‘s website (www.ekurhuleni.gov.za). Comments and suggestions should be emailed to budgettips@ekurhuleni.gov.za.

“The city appeals to members of the public to seize the opportunity and constructively contribute to the formulation of these important documents that guide the development and service delivery agenda of the metro,” said city spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

He further explains that the meetings have been scheduled for the evenings to accommodate many people, including the working class and students.

The IDP is a process through which municipalities prepare a strategic development plan which extends over a five-year period. In terms of the Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, all municipalities have to undertake an IDP process to produce IDPs.

During its five-year life cycle, the IDP is reviewed and updated annually. The annual budget provides the Medium-Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF) which sets out the financial path for the ensuing three years.
The closing date for comments is April 19.
