Hospital focuses on healthy pregnancies

Expectant parents gathered for Pregnancy Awareness Week at Netcare N17 Hospital on February 16.

Netcare N17 Hospital welcomed expectant mothers when it celebrated Pregnancy Awareness Week on February 16.

Pregnancy Awareness Week runs from February 6 to 10 and raises healthy pregnancy awareness. The week aims to improve education about pregnancy to promote healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood.

Tender Touch Baby Clinic’s Sister Elsie Schemper advised expectant mothers to seek prenatal care at a primary healthcare centre as early in the pregnancy as feasible.

“Since early detection and interventions are necessary for a healthy outcome for mother and child, prenatal care should ideally begin at the moment of diagnosis,” said Schemper.

“We also used this opportunity to provide the present mothers with more information on what to expect on their babies’ delivery day and the importance of a healthy diet.”

To provide mothers without medical aid with the best retreatment possible, N17 Hospital collaborates with local clinics to help and refer them.

The hospital treated the mothers with baby care products and information goodie bags to take home.
