Platinum learns about the magic of reading aloud

Read Aloud Day is celebrated on February 7.

Representatives of the Springs Library visited learners of Platinum Private School on Thursday.

This is part of the City of Ekurhuleni’s initiative to promote library visits, and active reading and to celebrate Read Aloud Day.

They advised learners on the importance of reading and more especially reading aloud to get the full benefits.

“When you read aloud, you help yourself with comprehension, pronunciation and increasing your vocabulary,” says librarian Primrose Theko.

She described learning as both formal and informal and explained there are designated spaces available for both at the library.

“At the library, there are spaces dedicated to you so you can focus and have fun.”

Tumi Phutiyagae explained to the learners what documents they need to apply for a library card.

“You will need your parents’ IDs, your birth certificate and a copy of proof of residence.”

The children enjoyed the various activities including having some of their peers read aloud from books and reciting some poetry.
