Senior citizens celebrate love

The Springs Senior Citizens Club hosts these lunches for the members annually.

The Springs Senior Citizens Club held their Valentine’s Day lunch on Friday. New and old members graced the annual event.

The club’s chairperson, Ronnie Newby, says moments and events like these present one with the opportunity to reflect.

“It is not to reflect on the future or the past but to focus on the now. We should not sit at home and do nothing.”

He emphasised the need for people to not wait until tomorrow when they can do things today.

Those who attended the lunch were treated to a performance by the local singer, Leon van Zyl, who reminisced about his memories from the club.

“The last time I was here, my grandmother was still alive, and this brings back many memories. Thank you for having me,” he said.

As a last-minute treat to the club, Terrence Redmund, a member of the club, also sang a duet with Leon before delivering a solo performance of his own.

“This is something new for everyone. We have never heard him sing,“ remarked the club’s manager, Pauline Houghton.
