Striders put their best tekkie forward

The warm Springs weather welcomed runners from all over Gauteng.

Springs Striders Athletics Club hosted their 53rd annual road race on January 21. Over 1 000 runners and walkers from across Gauteng graced the streets of Springs.

The participants chose to compete in the 32km, 15km, or 5km races. There was a spirit of kinship as the runners enjoyed the trails.

Refreshments were available at various water and marshalling points along the route.

“Springs Striders thanks everyone who worked hard and assisted us to make our race a huge success, and especially to all our runners for coming to support our race this year,” said club secretary Kim Westley.

These were the top results:

32km winners
– Open men – Mandla Mahlangu 01:51:30
– Open ladies- Cian Oldknow 02:00:40

15km winners
– Men – Dumisane Mahlangu 00:50:43
– Ladies – Holly Thomas 01:04:52

5km winners
– Boy – Jonathan Dieriks 00:18:25
– Girl – Kara Beytell 00:21:18

“We thank those who managed our water points.”

Mpact won the club’s competition for the best water point.

“We also thank our sponsors and the Springs Boys High Band for keeping our runners entertained en route with your music playing.

“Most of all, a big thank you to Veritas College Senior School for always going out of their way for us on our race day and letting us use your grounds.

“We will see you again next year.”
