Entries to third annual visual arts project now open

Winning pieces will be exhibited in the Springs Art Gallery to be sold.

Visual art practitioners are invited to submit their artworks and stand a chance of being a part of the third annual Umsizi Nopende National Visual Art Programme with prize money of R50 000.

Artists are encouraged to present their best artworks, which are aligned to this year’s theme: ‘Looking into the past, present and the future’.

“The annual programme is presented by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) in partnership with Isthuli-Sasengweni Arts and Craft Organisation. It will create an opportunity for the selected artworks to be showcased at a curated contemporary exhibition at the Springs Art Gallery,” explains CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“In addition, the successful artists will receive an R1 500 stipend to attend a five-day Funda training programme aimed at upskilling them.”

Artworks to be entered must be submitted online at https://forms.gle/SxyQfgsxMjU3AcpW.

The deadline for submissions is February 9 at 16:00.

Submitted artworks should be unframed paintings, printmaking, drawing, mixed media collage, or photography, not exceeding 150cm x 150cm in size. It must be the originals of the artist and must have been completed in the previous 12 months from the date of entry.

The following terms and conditions apply to submissions:
• Artist(s) must be 21 years or older to enter.
• Only artists born or residing in Gauteng and the Mpumalanga provinces can enter.
• Proof of residence may be requested.
• Entries must be exhibition-ready because the artworks selected will be transported to the Springs Art Gallery
• Each piece consisting of multiple parts diptychs or triptychs will be accepted and must be entered as one work
• All entries are to be for sale at a market-related price. The entrant must provide a selling price for each work. The Isthuli-Sasengweni Arts & Craft Organisation will deduct a 20% commission on all sales.
