Nicholas Weeks, a paddler of the East Rand Kayak Club (ERK), is on the cusp of realising a lifelong aspiration of competing in the Olympic Games.

Weeks partnered with Chrisjan Coetzee from Cape Town in the K2 event at the Africa Olympic Qualifying Championships in Abuja, Nigeria on November 24.

This event was the continental qualifier for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In an outstanding display of skill and determination, Weeks and Coetzee clinched the top spot in the K2 500m sprint.

This victory not only secured their place but also earned South Africa a coveted spot in the K2 500m sprint at Paris 2024.

A sprint qualifying event is scheduled for March to ascertain the fastest K2 paddlers, who will then be chosen to represent South Africa at the Games.
