Springs West Road safe following a gas pipe leak incident
A high-pressure gas line leak was reported on Tuesday evening on the corner of Springs West Road and Vlakfontein Road.
Springs West Road and Vlakfontein Road in Wright Park have been declared safe following reports received of a high-pressure natural gas line on Tuesday evening.
The incident was reported at 19:00 and further contained at 23:00 on the same day.
Ward 74 Clr Thulani Simelane said a scene assessment was conducted by Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) upon arrival.
“They detected that the natural gas pipeline was leaking under tremendous pressure,” said Simelane.
The incident led to road closures in the vicinity.
Simelane said that a pipe was allegedly struck by cable thieves who were excavating cables.
EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said EMPD officials are on-site monitoring the excavation operation by technicians.
Thepa added that the situation is under control and repairs will start soon.
No casualties were reported on the scene.
