Springs Crime Prevention Unit lauded for hard work

SAPS Annual Prestige Awards ceremony recognizes achievements of the Springs Crime Prevention Unit.

The SAPS Springs Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) recently received recognition for the SAPS Annual Prestige 2023 Awards.

The event honours and recognises extraordinary work by employees of the SAPS.

Springs SAPS station commander Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe applauded the team’s achievements and dedication to significantly contributing to the safety of the community.

Gwebushe said from October 2022 until the end of September this year, CPU has displayed an unparalleled level of commitment and effectiveness in safeguarding the community.

“Their efforts have resulted in an impressive 537 arrests, covering a wide spectrum of serious crimes including murders, carjackings, housebreakings, armed robbery, and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” Gwebushe said.

“Notably, the team successfully recovered 26 unlicensed firearms and ammunition, a critical condition for ensuring public safety.”

Additionally, their proactive approach to drug-related offences has led to the opening of 451 cases, effectively removing over R500 000 worth of drugs such as cocaine, dagga, nyaope, crystal meth, and Mandrax from the streets.

This not only demonstrated their vigilance but also their decision to combat the root causes of criminal activity.

“What sets them apart is their selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, ” Gwebushe added.

“They routinely extend their working hours, often returning to work in the early hours of the morning after completing a full day’s job.”

Gwebushe expressed that numerous times they have worked extended shifts to conduct observations and trace criminals, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the community’s safety.
