Classical festival on the cards

Win tickets to Vukani Classical Festival.

The Vukani Classical Festival will now take place at Birchwood Hotel on December 3. The event was initially set to take place at the Mardi Gras, Carnival City on November 5.

The festival is the brainchild of Mmusi Morekure and Bongani Vilakazi, of BE100.

“What makes this a unique concept is that it has the potential to set Ekurhuleni apart. Every other metropolitan has a festival, but classical music is special,” said Matthews Mogafe, a local business person.

Mogafe added that he endorses the event and encourages other business people to support it.

“It will be beautiful to listen to iconic songs arranged plastically into beautiful music,” he said.

Directed by Bongani Vilakazi, this production boasts international star Joseph Clark as a guest artist and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Turkey-based local tenor Lethokuhle Skosana is in the lineup, with the music directed by maestro Schalk van der Merwe.

The festival is said to strategically promote young emerging soloists from across the country.

“The festival has the potential to create employment for our youth. It will definitely put a spotlight on our music and it will be delivered to an international audience through the orchestra.”

The Ekurhuleni Chorus will lend their talents to the event as well. Tickets are available on https://www.quicket.co.za/events/241320-vukani-classical-music-festival/#/
