Bhairavi Sungum celebrates Diwali with Give-A-Tray drive

Diwali, or Deepavali, is a festival of lights that Hindus around the world celebrate.

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs celebrated Diwali on Sunday with fervour and gaiety, as the community of Bakerton rejoiced in the occasion.

This year, as part of the celebrations, Bhairavi Sungum once again hosted its Diwali Give-A-Tray collection.

Members of the community shared trays of sweets and savoury foods among family and friends. Many made a drop-off at the community collection point for distribution to the less fortunate children

All items collected were distributed to children at the East Rand Children’s Haven in Brakpan on behalf of the community of Bakerton.

Diwali, or Deepavali, is a celebration that Hindus around the world celebrate yearly. The word ‘Deepavali’ refers to rows of clay lamps.

It is the festival of lights, the victory of righteousness, the lifting of spiritual darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.
