Children learn about caring for pets at Springs SPCA

Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church children arrived at SPCA Springs on October 28 with eager smiles, ready to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals within their community.

In a heart-warming display of compassion and empathy, the children of Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church joined forces with the Springs SPCA on October 28.

The collaboration was aimed at celebrating the feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.

Not only did the children generously donate pet food, but they also got an opportunity to engage in various activities that fostered their understanding and appreciation of animal welfare.

Asanda Nkomo explained that the youngsters embarked on a long journey of meaningful interaction.

“They spent their time cleaning and beautifying the shelter, creating a safe and comfortable haven for the animals awaiting adoption,” Nkomo said.

“They discussed healthy eating, exercise and healthcare, giving them the knowledge and skills they needed to take on the role of responsible caregivers.”

Recognising the need to create awareness within their community, they undertook various fundraising initiatives to advocate for animal welfare in their church.

“The partnership between Kristo Inkosi Catholic Church and the SPCA serves as a testament to the power of unity and collaboration,” Nkomo said.

“By joining hands, these young activists magnified their voices, amplifying their collective impact and ensuring a brighter future for the animals they hold dear.

Father Chaka Motanyane, the parish priest, expressed pride in the youngsters for their unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of animals.

“Their dedication to the teachings of St Francis of Assisi is truly inspiring. Their actions remind us all of our responsibility to protect and care for all creatures, big and small,” Motanyane said.

Setting an example for their peers and the wider community, they seek to inspire others to actively engage in the promotion of animal welfare and to cherish the bond shared with furry companions.
