Ward 76 youth marches against unemployment

The march called for job creation and CSR opportunities for the youth.

The youth of Ward 76 and this ward’s ANC Youth League (ANCYL) gathered for a peaceful march across the industrial area in Nuffield on Friday.

The areas within the ward are Daggafontein, Kwassa and N17 informal settlements.

The purpose of the march was to hand over memorandums to various businesses, addressing youth unemployment and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the young residents of Springs.

ANCYL deputy secretary of Ward 76 Kgopotso Noge, says it is time the industry allows the youth to take part in the economy.

“We, the youth, need transparency within the industry as ways to get opportunities such as bursaries and jobs. We also need ways to obtain specialised work opportunities such as apprenticeships, training and skills development.”

The march started at Element 6 and progressed to other companies such as Heineken, McCain Food SA, Kingsley, Bevcan Nampak, Vulcania, Clyde Steel and GH Steel where the representatives of the companies accepted the memorandums.
