San shines bright as woman of the month

The competition ran during Women's Month.

The Springs Advertiser ran a campaign looking for Springs’ Woman of the Month.

This was an initiative aimed at recognising the work and efforts of those who work within their communities to drive change.

San van Wyk (74), the winner, has been doing charity work within Springs for 21 years.

She has been honoured and nominated for her various initiatives some of which are:

• Running a soup kitchen in Geduld for the past three years.

• Helping to build playgrounds for Skoonplaas informal settlement.

• Feeding 50 families monthly through food parcels.

• Running food drives for local schools.

• Providing food parcels every week to the Carene and Jabes care centres.

• She hands out food parcels to 25 car guards in the Geduld area near Spar.

• She hosts yearly Christmas parties for disadvantaged children.

• Visits old age homes on Sundays to motivate and minister to the elderly.

She has been lauded for her work with Jesus is Light Church, a church based in Eastvale.

“She is such a wonderful motivator and goes all out of her heart work for Jesus,” her nomination reads.

“She is the best friend a woman can ever ask for complete with a heart of gold. She never gives up and her heart is in everything she does for charity.”

When asked how she feels about being celebrated, San says she didn’t expect to be nominated as she doesn’t do the work for recognition.

“I am shocked but I would like to thank all those who nominated me, I love you all and I am eternally grateful for the honour,” she beamed.

San has been awarded an R250 voucher from George’s Bread and Co.
