The Springs Boys High School (SBHS) brass band, hosted yet another spectacular experience, this time at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City on Saturday.
The event which is commonly known as a tattoo, saw multiple performances by various groups and schools.
The school’s band performed five times during the show.
With almost 300 performers and an international artist dazzling audiences in a four-hour cultural spectacle, the venue was beyond full.
“We had an absolutely amazing show. Some of the feedback that we received was that it was world-class. It was really been a big success,” he said.
Boucher said they managed to surpass the 3000 mark of tickets sold.
“The tickets were sold by the learners themselves as part of fundraising and for 82 boys to sell that number of tickets is phenomenal. We are so proud of them.”
The following groups gave the audiences a stellar performance: SBHS parade, SBHS show band with Studio K dancers and Phoenix Dance Studio, Kristo Nkosi marimba band, Jeppe Boys’ pipe band, Benoni High School pipe band, Hoërskool Oosterland brass band, and Dowerglen High School Panthers drummies.
The performance was graced by a former SBHS scholar who stays in New York and was part of the performers for the show.
Part of the band’s future plan is to sell out a two-night show and expand nationally.
“Our ultimate goal for the future is to also bring in international artists to join our shows. They say less is more, so we will be looking at fewer performers but more quality and a better show,” said Boucher.
Shawn added that with the art of military bands and performances being lost, they aim to re-ignite it.
