The 67-year-old man was fatally stabbed after an altercation broke out in a nearby pub.

A 67-year-old man was fatally stabbed multiple times early on August 12 on Protea Road, Edelweiss.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, it is alleged that the deceased was at a pub when a fight broke out between him and another man.

“The deceased and his friend left the pub shortly after the altercation, and while driving, they noticed damage to the car’s tyres, ” said Tshabalala.

“The deceased pulled over the car on the abovementioned street to inspect it. As he was doing so, a man came up behind him and repeatedly stabbed him. ”

Tshabalala said the passenger fled when he saw his friend under attack.

The deceased had stab wounds to his back and the left-hand side of his face.

Tshabalala added that the attacker was traced and arrested by the Springs Serious and Violent Crimes (SVC) Unit and the Crime Prevention Unit on Friday.

“A case of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property has been opened,” Tshabalala added.

He made his first appearance on Monday at the Springs Magistrate’s Court. The case was moved to the Springs Regional Court, where his first formal bail application was made on Tuesday.
