Sadag urges locals to support the LGBTQIAP+ for mental health

SADAG launches a support group for individuals who are LGBTQIAP+ identifying or questioning.

According to the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) for many individuals in the LGBTQIAP+ community, the journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance can be a challenging and isolating experience.

In light of this, Sadag is offering a safe and welcoming environment where members can share their stories, experiences, and struggles, all while receiving encouragement and understanding.

On August 18, the organisation will be launching a support group for individuals who are LGBTQIAP+ identifying or questioning. The support group will be launched online at 19:30 and thereafter will meet every second Friday at 19:30 pm.

Support group leader Tris Alblas said the group was started because she is passionate about mental health. “I am queer myself and would have benefitted a lot from a support group if I had access to one.”

Alblas added, “Anyone is welcome to join the group, whether you identify as queer or think you may be queer but are not sure, the group will have strict rules around confidentiality as some may not be publicly ‘out’ yet. This needs to be a safe space.”

To join the group contact Tris on 061 601 5242 and for information on other support groups, visit www.sadag.org, call 0800 21 22 23 or SMS 31393 to speak to a counsellor.
